Road
sweeper
Clean
the
streets
in
the
rain
Brush, lift rubbish, walk
Do it all over again
Switch the brain off
The brush seems shackled
To my hands
No time to stand and admire
The moving bleak picture of the rain
Of the wet urban concrete landscape
The dirt at the edge of the kerbs
Brush, lift rubbish, walk
Do it all over again
Switch the brain off
The brush seems shackled
To my hands
No time to stand and admire
The moving bleak picture of the rain
Of the wet urban concrete landscape
The dirt at the edge of the kerbs
Sweep
them
into
little
bundles
Manageable dirty mounds
That I shovel up in the rain
The rain wash the roads-edges
Behind me
The barrow begins to fill
Fill from my graft
A working graft that uses muscles
No trade- craft that I've got
No paper of knowledge
I don't need knowledge
For what I've been taught
Provide for my family
The best that I can
Never be bitter for what
The world has offered me
I'm just an ordinary working man
That works through the bad
And the good spells of life
Can you tell that I take pride in my work?
The side of the road is perfectly clean
No dirt on the edge of the kerb
For weeds to take control
Brush ,shovel, lift
Go through the motion all over again
In the street filled rain
